  1. Q: What is the difference between solid and engineered hardwood flooring?

Few can dispute the warmth and luxury feeling that only a hardwood floor can bring. Both solid and engineered hardwood floors are made from 100% wood, but the two are structurally different. The solid hardwood floor plank comes as one piece of lumber, usually ¾” thick. Engineered floor planks are constructed by laminating multiple layers of plywood together, topped with a solid hardwood veneer that is as thick as 4mm. The multi-layer core runs in opposite directions in alternating layers, making engineered hardwood the more structurally sound choice for any harsh and constantly changing weather.

  1. Q: Tell me about Eclipse™ laminate floors.

Eclipse™ laminate flooring consists of four parts: an AC4 top layer, a high definition décor layer, a high density fiberboard core layer, and a backing layer. Consumers get the benefits of both worlds – the looks of the latest high end trends like reclaimed wood, natural stones, and driftwood but without the price associated with hardwood/marble floors. All of Eclipse™ Laminate products have the authenticated Drop & Lock joint system, licensed by Unilic® and Valinge™. This patented technology helps save up to 50% of installation time. An AC4 rating means the floor can withstand heavy residential and moderate commercial traffic. The high density fiberboard core is engineered to provide superior impact resistance and increased durability. To further protect your investment, we have included Aqua-Guard seal on all 4 sides for added protection against moisture and squeaking.

  1. Q: Tell me about Eclipse™ luxury vinyl floors.

Constructed with 100% virgin vinyl material, Eclipse™ vinyl floors are more structurally stable than many competitors’ product on the market. Our luxury vinyl floors come in both planks and tiles. They are warmer underfoot than traditional tile or stone, and are more forgiving for everyday accidents – outstanding for busy families and high traffic spaces. These floors come in an array of realistic patterns, available in slate, travertine, wood, and many other trendy design patterns. None of our luxury vinyl flooring needs grouting, less mess, less time.

  1. Q: Is there a Step by Step Guide to Floor Purchasing?

When you first start to look for flooring choices, it can be quite an overwhelming experience. Luckily, Eclipse™ is here to help. Follow our simple and effective guide, and we promise you can navigate through the ocean of choices with relative ease.

  1. Consider your lifestyle, application, pets and kids, expertise, and budget.
  2. Eclipse™ product page is a great starting point to get some inspirations.
  3. Bring a floor plan or a sketch of the space when visiting a store
  4. Bring items that really represent you! Picture of the cushions, photo of the furniture, fabric swatches, or color chips
  5. Most people overlook this, but it is crucial to know the source of lighting in a room when choosing floors. Floor colors appear lighter when viewed in a well-lit space. Copious amount of filtered light will make the room appear bigger. When in store, always ask to feel and look at sample boards in different lights.
  6. Sign out a larger sample to bring home with you for a closer look under different lights. Put up against fixtures like cabinets, walls, and counter-top for better comparison.

  1. Q: I have kids and pets, should I install hardwood floors?

We have put a lot of efforts into making our hardwood flooring products durable and safe for you. Eclipse™ mascot, a young and exuberant chocolate Labrador Retriever, can attest to the durability of our finishes. But bear in mind, all hardwood floors will inevitably be prone to show the wear from traffic over time. By comparison, luxury vinyl and laminate floors are better suited for high traffic spaces.

  1. Q: Where can my hardwood flooring be installed?

Solid hardwood floors can be installed on and above grade, not below grade. Engineered floors can be installed on, above or below grade, as well as in high rise buildings. Regardless where the hardwood floor is installed, for optimal performance, the ambient condition requirements must be met at all times. For more information, refer to the Install and Maintenance tab on each product’s page.

  1. Q: Can my hardwood floor be installed over radiant heat?

Eclipse™ engineered hardwood floors can be installed over radiant heating system, but seasonal gapping should be expected. No solid hardwood floors should be installed over radiant heat. Before attempting to install, it is mandatory that the installation instructions be read and carefully followed. Failure to do so will void your warranty.

  1. Q: Where can I install my Eclipse™ laminate floor?

Compare to solid hardwood flooring, laminate flooring has a much wider application. Eclipse™ laminate flooring can be installed below, on or above grade and on almost any flat clean surfaces. Installation over radiant heating systems is also permitted. Before installation, always be sure to read and carefully follow our Installation Instructions.

  1. Q: Can I install laminate floors myself or do I need to hire a professional?

Eclipse™ laminate floors features Drop and Lock technology – industry’s leading joint locking system designed to make installation easy. Though we always recommend professional installation, many handy home owners were able to install Eclipse™ laminate flooring with ease. Whether Do-It-Yourself or hire a professional, we require that the Installation Instructions be carefully read before installation.

  1. Q: Is Eclipse™ Luxury Vinyl flooring waterproof?

Many vinyl flooring on the market claim to be “waterproof” but are often times misleading. Our planks and tiles are technically waterproof, especially since they are made with 100% virgin vinyl material. But the truth is that no installation can guarantee a watertight seal. As a result, any liquid left to sit on a vinyl floor will eventually seep through the crevices in between joints, where mold and mildew can grow on the subfloor underneath. This is why we say that our luxury vinyl flooring is highly moisture resistant, not waterproof. Follow our Care and Maintenance Guide to keep your luxury floor looking its best.

  1. Q: Where can I find the product warranty?

Product warranty can be found in every box of an Eclipse™ flooring product. A downloadable copy of the warranty is also available under the Warranty tab on each product’s page.

  1. Q: How can I make a claim?

Read your warranty carefully, and contact your retail store immediately when you detect a problem with your flooring product. If the retailer cannot resolve the problem and you wish to file a claim, please follow Eclipse™ Complaint Procedure.

  1. Q: I see Temperature and Relative Humidity in the warranty. Why are they important to know?

Ambient conditions such as temperature and relative humidity need to be maintained at specified levels in order for your Eclipse™ floors to perform optimally. Different flooring choices have different requirements, so please read and carefully follow the Installation, Care and Warranty document in every box. Failure to comply will result in voiding your warranty.
